Polo shirts help fight against Strangles

Fancy a stylish new riding top while helping to raise money for a good cause? Horse & Hound has teamed up with clothing company Puffa to produce a special polo shirt. The shirt has been designed to support the Strangles campaign launched by the Animal Heath Trust (AHT) and British Horse Society (BHS) earlier in the year (news, 8 February).

For every shirt sold, a total of £2 will be donated to the campaign, which aims to raise £250,000 over two years to fund research into a new Strangles vaccine and a more effective means of diagnosis.

A Puffa spokesman told H&H the firm hopes to raise £50,000 from the sale of 25,000 shirts. Puffa managing director Neil Farrar said he was keen to get his company involved in the drive to stamp out Strangles.

"When I heard about the campaign, I immediately wanted to do something to help eliminate such an awful disease," he said. "I know this issue will be close to the hearts of horse lovers everywhere and I hope they will want to show their support by participating in this campaign
— £250,000 is an achievable amount to raise."

H&H Editor Lucy Higginson said: "Horse & Hound is extremely pleased to play a role in this fund-raising initiative for the Strangles campaign, a disease we would all like to see eliminated."

The shirts are available in four colours — white, candy pink, ice blue and navy — and retail at £30 for adult sizes and £20 for juniors.

They will be on sale for the first time on 7 July at the British Horse Society's
60th birthday celebrations in Windsor.

H&H readers keen to pre-order a shirt can do so at Badminton from 3rd to 6th May, where top event riders Nick Gauntlett, Lucy Wiegersma, Ruth Edge, Terry Boon and Gemma Tattersall are supporting the campaign.
